The game loaded fine but something inside the game is not behaving as expected — a train is stuck, a schedule won't save, a building isn't responding, or part of the interface has disappeared. This guide walks you through the most effective self-service fixes and tells you what information to gather if you do need to contact support.
Before anything else, do a hard refresh. The vast majority of mid-session UI glitches are resolved instantly this way.
Windows: Ctrl + Shift + R
Mac: Cmd + Shift + R
This reloads the game without restarting your session — your progress is saved server-side, so nothing is lost.
If one or more trains seem frozen in place and are not completing transports:
Do a hard refresh (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R). This is the fix in the large majority of cases.
Check whether the industry or city your train is heading to has reached its maximum stock. A train will wait at a full destination until goods are consumed.
Check your train's condition in the Train List. A train in very poor condition moves significantly slower and may appear stuck on long routes.
If the train shows as "scheduled" but never departs, check that the schedule has at least one valid pick-up and one valid delivery stop.
If your train schedule disappears or reverts after you set it:
Ensure you clicked the final confirmation button ("Let's Go") — closing the schedule window without confirming discards changes.
If the schedule saves but then resets on the next login, clear your cache and cookies [link to article] and try again in a fresh browser session.
Check that no other player with station access (e.g. an association member collecting bonuses) has inadvertently modified the schedule.
After upgrading a station building, the new level or bonus sometimes doesn't show immediately.
Hard refresh the page — the display almost always updates after a reload.
For research upgrades applied to a train, remember that upgrades must be manually installed on each train after they are unlocked. Visit the Train List, select the train, and apply the upgrade.
Menus, panels, or buttons disappearing or rendering on top of each other is almost always a display glitch caused by cached data.
Hard refresh (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R).
If that doesn't help, clear your full cache and cookies.
Try zooming your browser to 100% — Rail Nation's layout is designed for 100% zoom and can display incorrectly at other zoom levels.
If the issue persists in a fresh incognito window, it is likely a genuine bug worth reporting.
If your Gold total looks incorrect, this is most likely a purchase issue rather than a display bug. See Purchase & Gold Issues for guidance.
Slowness in-game is usually a combination of network quality and browser state.
Close other browser tabs — Rail Nation is resource-intensive and performs better with fewer competing tabs.
Clear your cache — accumulated data can slow the browser's rendering.
Check your internet connection speed and stability. A wired connection is more reliable than Wi-Fi for sustained play.
Disable browser extensions, particularly those that modify page content or inject scripts.
If you are on a laptop, ensure it is plugged in — performance throttling on battery can noticeably affect the game.
If none of the above steps fix your issue, please report it. A well-documented report gets resolved much faster. Include the following:
What to include | Why it helps |
Server and account name | Lets us locate your exact game state |
Date and time of the bug (with time zone) | Helps correlate with server logs |
Exact steps to reproduce | A reproducible bug gets fixed; a vague one may not |
Browser name and version | Rules out or confirms browser-specific behavior |
Screenshot or screen recording | Visual evidence of UI glitches is invaluable |
For complex or recurring bugs, support may also ask for console or network log files. See How to Save Console and Network Log Files for instructions.
