Game Won't Load

If Rail Nation is not loading in your browser — you see a black or white screen, the loading bar freezes, or the game just never appears — follow these steps in order. Most loading issues can be fixed in under two minutes.

Before you start:  Check status.rail-nation.com first. If your server is under maintenance or experiencing an outage, no amount of troubleshooting on your end will help — simply wait for the issue to be resolved.

Step-by-Step Fix

Step 1 — Hard-Refresh the Page

This is always the first thing to try. A hard refresh forces a full reload and clears any partially-loaded cached content.

• Windows: Ctrl + Shift + R

• Mac: Cmd + Shift + R

If the game loads — great, you're done. If not, continue to Step 2. 

Step 2 — Clear Your Cache and Cookies

Corrupted or outdated cached files are the most common cause of loading failures. Use the keyboard shortcut below to open the clearing menu in your browser:

• Windows: Ctrl + Shift + Delete

• Mac: Cmd + Shift + Delete

Select Cached images and files and Cookies and other site data, then clear. For detailed browser-specific steps, see How to Delete Cache and Cookies.

After clearing, close and reopen your browser before trying to load the game again.

Step 3 — Disable Browser Extensions

Ad blockers, script blockers, and VPN extensions frequently interfere with Rail Nation. The easiest way to test this is to open the game in an incognito/private window, which disables extensions by default.

• Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) / Cmd + Shift + N (Mac)

• Firefox / Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P (Windows) / Cmd + Shift + P (Mac)

If the game loads in incognito, an extension is the cause. Disable them one by one (starting with any ad or script blocker) until you find the culprit.

Step 4 — Switch to Google Chrome

Rail Nation is built and tested primarily on Google Chrome. If you are using a different browser, switch to Chrome and try again. This resolves compatibility-related loading failures.

Step 5 — Check Your Network

A weak or unstable internet connection can cause the game to stall mid-load.

• Try restarting your router.

• If you are on Wi-Fi, try switching to a wired connection or moving closer to your router.

• If you use a VPN, try disabling it — some VPN configurations block the game servers.

Step 6 — Check That Cookies Are Enabled

Rail Nation requires cookies to maintain your login session and game state. If cookies are blocked, the game may load partially or not at all. Check your browser's privacy settings and ensure cookies are enabled for rail-nation.com.
