The fifth era introduces 3 passenger trains named after ancient gods and heroes, with one of them being a bonus engine.
Engines are unlocked using research points generated by the Laboratory building in your Train Station. Once pre-requisites are researched, you can develop new engines. Coupling systems become available at the end of each era, enabling transportation of goods from the next one.
Note: No research from previous eras is required to unlock Era 5 trains, so you can start here directly if joining a game late.
